Kenzo Takada opened his first boutique, Jungle Jap, in Paris's Galerie Vivienne in 1970, and went on to become one of the first Japanese designers to make his name in Paris. Jungle, introduced as a younger line in the mid-1980s, kept the house's spirit of colour, craft and playfulness. This early 1990s blazer is cut from pure black wool, with notch lapels faced in satin-finish jacquard, tonal floral embroidery and raised velvet roses. Single breasted with three velvet-covered buttons, padded shoulders, a nipped waist and cuff vents with matching velvet buttons. At the back, a gathered, peplum-style waist is fitted with a floral jacquard strap that echoes the collar. Lined in polyester and made in France, with the woven tiger-in-bamboo Kenzo Jungle label. A sculpted, unique piece with real Kenzo character.
